The Celebration
08/10/2010

Well, last night we met at my local Starbucks for some good knitting, some homemade cake and of course some good fun – all in honor of EZ’s 100th b’day.

singing “happy birthday”

blowing out the candles

demolishing the cake

dressing up with the wrapping and trying to hide the yarn so it does not get stolen =)

Tonia’s yarn coordinated with her outfit and her current project until I “stole” it….

08/09/2010

Happy Birthday Elizabeth Zimmermann! Since today is your official b’day I just have to say, “Happy Birthday.” Even though you are no longer with us, you continue to inspire us, help us through crises & teach us things we did not know! Ah, where would we be with out you!

Celebrate the day, knitters, it’s a grand one for all of us!

Well, without further delay… the winner of all that lovely Harrisville yarn is… Linda Cannon! Congrats Linda! You have 24 hours to contact me with your postal address! I hope you enjoy it.

Thanks to all who participated! I loved hearing about the wonderful things that are on your needles! Ah, knitting is fun.

Well, I’ve got to get back to work. The chocolate cake for tonight’s birthday party just came out of the oven. I need to run up to Marsh to pick up the birthday balloons and then the sock yarn for the gift exchange needs to be wrapped…. I’ll be back tomorrow with some pictures!

happy knitting to all!

Elizabeth’s Birthday & A Giveaway
08/03/2010

It’s Elizabeth Zimmerman’s 100th birthday on Monday, August 9! People will be celebrating her birthday in various ways — I’m trying to organize a group of knitters to meet at my local Starbucks for a coffeehouse birthday in honor of EZ! It should be fun.

And, in honor of Elizabeth Zimmermann, and to encourage you all to continue knitting along, the good folks at Harrisville Yarn have donated yarn for a sweater. There is enough yarn and little color skeins to do a Seamless Yoke Sweater from Knitting Around. However, if you win the yarn, you are more than welcome to make it into anything your heart desires!

How to enter: leave a comment at the bottom of this post and let us know what is currently on your needles. You have until Sunday, August 8 to enter.

Winner will be drawn: the winner will be drawn and announced on August 9 – EZ’s birthday.

Good luck to all and happy knitting!

The Mobius Vest
08/01/2010

The Mobius Vest is done! And it is lovely.  I am so glad I am in the midst of the garter stitch portion of the book right now. It is so relaxing and comforting. If you know anyone that is spending a fortune on massage therapy — just tell them to knit garter stitch. It will do wonders for them!

One of the things I did to make the Mobius Vest fit my style was knit it in an Aplaca/Wool blend – Berroco’s lovely Ultra Alpaca to be specific and I used larger than usual needles – #9. This caused the resulting fabric to be drapy and flowy rather than stiff. Love the results! It is so chic, don’t you think?

I love how the “shawl” collar just becomes the “sleeve” which then becomes a very straight and simple back. Absolutely breathtaking. Another marvelous piece by Elizabeth Z! I am in awe of her short rows down the front – now how did she think of that. Must remember that for future use….
